What are you insinuating, good sir?
Back story: I was in the right lane approaching slower traffic, and seeing that the left lane was clear with NO ONE IN IT for at least a mile, I merged left and began passing. Two semis and a SUV. NONE were going as fast as I was, and none of the gaps between them IN MY MIND were large enough to safely merge into.
So.
This guy in his 2000 Accord V6 (an upgrade from the Buick Century that was previously plated... yes I ran it through the Carmax thingy) comes up behind me while I’m passing the SUV and second semi, I’m going 76ish in a 70, clearly he was going and wanted to go MUCH FASTER, so he rides my ass as I pass the last semi.
I signal when its clear for me to do so and merge back over into the right lane. 99.9% legal, minus the little bit of speeding I was doing, but required given the below 70mph the trucks and SUV were doing.
As Mr. Accord passes me he gives me and my car a dirty look. That, plus the tailgating, is the reason I flipped him off and muttered “Asshole” AFTER HE WAS WELL PAST ME, but maybe he saw it in his mirrors?
Then he does this. Full on finger-gun pointed to his head, and pulls it away in a recoil type motion.
Really, fucker? YOU are the one breaking multiple traffic laws here. Suck a dick.

If you drove 30,000 miles a year like I do, you’d probably go insane.

I was in a similar situation that turned out completely different.
I was passing some semis going roughly 5 over. I saw a motorcycle coming up fast. I turned on my signal to let him know I was getting over asap (mostly in case he tried passing on the right before I had the chance). I sped up a little just to speed up the process and moved over as soon as I was safely in front. Dude gave me a thumbs up and sped off.

People are just crazy. There is no logic when it comes to road rage for most people. They arent trying to find justice or anything, they are just mad and will irrationally react to anything that happens next. This is why I always try to passive aggressively get mad at people. The only thing I can do is escalate the situation which helps nobody.
But ooooooooooooh does it grind my gears when people do stupid things in front of me. Thankfully I have like barely more than 100hp to the wheels so I can never really get into trouble by angrily speeding away from shit.

Man, you just described the exact situation I so often find myself in, especially when I’m on two lane highway with exit ramps into small towns. These are the people who will tell you that you should have been in the right lane because the left is for passing, by which they mean “passing at their speed”. I had one guy so irritated that he zipped unsafely around me at over 90, then got in front of me and braked checked me at over 75mph. It takes all kinds.

That guy’s got to learn to manage his expectations. If someone was going UNDER the speed limit in the left lane, then yeah they deserve some sort of negative feedback. But one can’t go around DEMANDING that everyone else break traffic laws just to facilitate the risks that they were personally willing to take.

If you drive differently than they do, you’re the problem. All drivers rate each other based on their own version of proper etiquette, habits, and safe practices.
You can’t win.
Depending on how close they got, I would have lifted. If they want to follow me at a distance that’s approprite for 40mph, then I cater to them for both of our safety.

I used to. I used to deliver car parts. Now I just sell them. 6 miles from home versus 30. Suburbs versus city. Much nicer now.

Hard to tell with that lens, but I’m guessing that can’t be more than 30-50' following distance.
Proper following distance at 75mph is at least 220' He was no more than .5 sec off your ass.

Whether the person passing is going over or under the speed limit really is of no point in this situation. So long as they are passing slower traffic, maintaining their chosen faster speed, and merge back over to the right after passing, the person behind (who wishes to go faster yet) doesn’t have a right to be angry.
Sure, I don’t particularly like being that guy in the back who wants to go faster. But if the car in front was doing the passing before I got there, and they complete their pass and move over, then that’s just another part of sharing the road.

I love when people lose their shit like this. I just don’t get it. My wife and I had something similar happen a couple of weeks ago. She was passing people in the left lane doing about 80 mph. Most of the other traffic was doing about 60-65. Someone flies up her ass and rides her bumper within maybe about 5 feet. When she was done passing the line of cars, she gets back over. The guy then passes us and flips out in his rearview mirror as he’s doing so. He got about 3 carlengths ahead before he came up to the next person in the left lane. I just don’t get people. Just because you feel as though you own the road doesn’t make it a fact. Apparently he thought he was Moses or something

His transmission probably broke 5 minutes later, if it makes you feel better.
